The Friends of Troops organization at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church has asked our Service Unit to help collect toiletries and other needed items to be sent in care packages to troops in Afghanistan next month. Also included in the care packages will be Operation Cookie Drop cookies collected by our Service Unit during our most recent cookie sale. These care packages are shipped to individual soldiers who are identified by members of the church, the community, or by their command, as being in need of support. Packages are also sent to base chaplains who distribute items to soldiers as needed.
Please see the list of items below that are needed, and share it with family, friends and neighbors who may be interested in helping out. Monetary donations are also needed to help pay for postage. Kathy will be delivering the donated items to the church on June 1st. Please let her know if you have items to donate and she will make arrangements to get them from you. You may leave comments on this blog if you'd like to donate.
Items will be packed into boxes on June 15th, and volunteers are needed to help. Girls and their families are welcome and encouraged to help with the box packing, which will take place at Shepherd of the Valley. More information will be posted as it become available.
